Bahrain says Iranian drones targeted its territory as regional tensions rise

Bahrain said on Saturday that Iranian drones targeted its territory, adding a new flashpoint to an already volatile West Asia crisis. The accusation came as Iran said it had struck targets linked to U.S. forces in response to American airstrikes on its southern coast.

The Bahraini foreign ministry said a number of drones had been launched toward the island nation, but it did not specify the exact target or give details about damage. Bahrain said the attack was a violation of its sovereignty and reserved the right to defend itself.

Iran did not immediately confirm launching the drones toward Bahrain. However, Tehran said it had carried out strikes against targets connected to U.S. forces after what it described as U.S. violations of the ceasefire arrangement and the war-ending memorandum between the two sides.

The exchange of accusations came at a time when tensions across the Gulf were already high. The conflict has widened concerns about the safety of civilians, military bases, and commercial shipping routes in the region, especially near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil passages.

Security sources also told Reuters that an explosive drone hit a camp belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group north of Iraq’s Erbil on Saturday. No casualties were reported because the camp had been evacuated earlier.

The latest incidents suggest that the fragile calm in the region is under severe strain. Even after a ceasefire or temporary understanding, both sides appear to be continuing military action and blaming each other for breaking the agreement.

Bahrain’s accusation is likely to intensify diplomatic pressure on Iran and add urgency to calls for restraint. The situation also raises fears that the fighting could spread further across Gulf states and affect energy supplies and regional trade.

For now, the region remains on edge as governments, security agencies, and shipping operators closely monitor the next move.
