Eight people arrested in the Ram temple donation row have been sent to police custody till June 29, while investigators have recovered ₹79.85 lakh so far, officials said. The case has drawn attention in Ayodhya after allegations that donations made by devotees at the temple were misused.
According to the FIR, the accused were linked to the process of counting cash and valuables donated at the temple. Police officials have alleged that they misappropriated money collected through donation boxes installed on the temple premises. The matter came to light after an investigation into irregularities in the handling of offerings.
The arrests were made after a Special Investigation Team looked into the case and examined records, CCTV footage, and other evidence. Police said the accused were taken into custody following the probe, and further questioning is now underway to determine the full extent of the alleged wrongdoing.
The recovered amount of ₹79.85 lakh is a key part of the investigation. Officials are trying to trace where the money was moved, who else may have been involved, and whether the alleged diversion of donations was part of a larger network. More names could emerge as the inquiry continues.
The case has raised concerns because it involves donations made by devotees at one of the country’s most prominent religious sites. Temple administration and police are under pressure to ensure transparency and restore public trust in the handling of offerings.
Legal proceedings in the case are still moving forward, and the accused will remain in police custody until June 29. Investigators are expected to use this period to confront the suspects with evidence, verify financial trails, and recover more funds if possible.
The case is likely to remain in the spotlight as authorities continue their probe into how temple donations were handled and whether stricter safeguards are needed to prevent such incidents in the future.
