With Bihar gearing up for the 2025 assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has released the state’s final electoral roll following a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR). According to the official data, 7.42 crore citizens are now eligible to vote. This final list reflects careful efforts to clean up inaccuracies, and it will serve as the foundation for Bihar’s upcoming electoral contest.
The revision process saw almost 47 lakh names dropped from the list compared to the tally in June due to reasons such as duplication, deaths, and migration. At the same time, more than 21 lakh new voters were added after a thorough scrutiny of applications and field verifications. This clean-up operation was managed by thousands of officers and agents across Bihar, who undertook extensive door-to-door checks and used modern technology to ensure the accuracy of voter records.
Officials emphasise that this updated roll is crucial for fair elections, as it eliminates ineligible entries and makes room for first-time voters and those who previously missed verification. Throughout the process, the Election Commission maintained strict guidelines and opened avenues for the public to check and update their details, further enhancing transparency.
Voters who wish to verify their enrollment or check the details in the final list can do so online using the Election Commission’s dedicated portals. This updated roll sets the stage for one of the most significant state elections in India, laying the groundwork for transparent and inclusive voting in Bihar.
