Akash Prime Missile Hits Target at 15,000 ft in Ladakh Trial

In a major boost to India’s defence preparedness, the Indian Army has successfully test-fired the Akash Prime air defence missile system at an altitude of over 15,000 feet in Ladakh. The test was carried out in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The Akash Prime missile is an upgraded version of the Akash missile system. It has been designed to perform in extreme conditions such as high altitudes and sub-zero temperatures, making it ideal for deployment in mountainous regions like Ladakh.

During the test, the system achieved direct hits on fast-moving aerial targets, validating its accuracy and performance. Officials confirmed that the system effectively neutralized targets under difficult terrain and weather conditions, showcasing its advanced capabilities.

Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active RF seeker, which allows it to track and destroy enemy aircraft and drones with improved precision. This upgrade is part of India’s ongoing efforts under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative to develop cutting-edge indigenous defence technology.

With plans to deploy Akash Prime in additional regiments, the Indian Army aims to further strengthen its layered air defence network along strategic borders.

This successful trial not only highlights India’s growing technological edge but also ensures better security and rapid response in high-altitude conflict zones.
