Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that India will continue to support every meaningful effort to restore peace in Ukraine and West Asia. He made the statement after holding wide-ranging talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
“Be it Ukraine or West Asia, India will continue to support every meaningful effort towards peace,” PM Modi said. He added that India believes no dispute can be resolved on the battlefield and that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only lasting path to peace.
India-Poland strategic partnership
The meeting focused on strengthening the India-Poland Strategic Partnership. The two leaders discussed closer cooperation in defence, space technology and nuclear energy. PM Modi also invited Polish companies to work with Indian partners on co-development and co-production projects in these sectors.
Both countries agreed to explore new opportunities in trade, investment and technology. PM Modi said India and Poland can work together more closely, especially as India and the European Union move ahead on a free trade agreement.
Tusk’s visit to India
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is on a three-day visit to India. His discussions with PM Modi covered bilateral relations, regional security, global conflicts and ways to expand cooperation between India and Europe.
Tusk also referred to Poland’s role in helping evacuate Indian students from Ukraine in 2022. He described the support as a sign of trust and friendship between the two nations.
India’s consistent position
India has repeatedly called for an early and peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. New Delhi has maintained that respect for international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential for lasting peace.
On West Asia, India has consistently urged all sides to avoid escalation, protect civilians and return to dialogue. PM Modi’s latest remarks underline India’s position that peace efforts must be supported wherever they can reduce conflict and restore stability.
Global governance reforms
During the talks, PM Modi also called for reforms in global institutions. He said the world needs stronger and more effective systems of global governance to address current challenges.
The meeting signals India’s effort to deepen ties with Central and Eastern Europe while maintaining its independent position on major global conflicts. It also highlights New Delhi’s growing role as a voice for dialogue, stability and peaceful resolution of disputes.
