U.S. President Donald Trump says he would rather reach a deal with Iran than continue military attacks. He said the goal is to avoid more violence while pushing for a faster agreement on key issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump made the remarks after saying he had canceled planned strikes on Iran. In a social media post, he said the attacks were called off after Iran and some Middle Eastern countries asked the U.S. to pause because “the perimeters of a deal” had been agreed to.
He also said the proposed deal would include the “immediate, complete, and total” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat. Trump framed the decision as being in the interest of both the region and global stability.
However, Iran has pushed back on Trump’s claims. Iranian officials said no talks are taking place and denied that any new negotiations with the United States are scheduled. That means the diplomatic situation remains unclear, despite Trump’s confident statements.
For now, Trump is presenting the pause in attacks as a step toward peace, but the two sides still appear far apart on whether real negotiations are underway.
