DRDO Successfully Tests Kusha Missile in Major Boost to India’s Air Defence

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the Kusha long-range surface-to-air missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The test marks an important step in India’s effort to build a stronger indigenous air defence system.

According to official reports, the missile was tested against an electronic target designed to simulate a high-speed and high-altitude aerial threat. The target was successfully intercepted, showing that the system worked as planned during its first flight test.

Kusha is being developed as a long-range air defence missile system capable of engaging a wide range of aerial threats. These include fighter jets, cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and large enemy aircraft. The system is meant to strengthen India’s ability to defend its airspace over long distances and at different altitudes.
