Legendary Bollywood Actor Dharmendra passes away

Dharmendra – the Legendary Bollywood Actor, Mega star and one of the most incredibly handsome and enigmatic screen presence that Bollywood has seen in a century, passed away today at the age of 89, after a path-breaking career that spanned 60 yrs and 300 films.

As the news came in, the world of Hindi cinema and Bollywood came to a standstill in solemn silence. Tributes from all corners of India are now pouring in as the nation bids farewell to one of its most beloved icons, the Masculine Icon of India, whose stardom cut across divides, nations and genres. Dharmendra was not only a star, he was an emotion, whose every line and dialogue was felt in billions of beating hearts around the world.

Born into a humble family, he rose to fame on his own grit and natural flair, quickly becoming a symbol of masculine grace and intense passion. His action-packed roles, delicate romances, heartfelt comedy, and profound drama — showcased a rare versatility, immortalising him into one of the Greats – a true legend of Indian Cinema.

In a career spanning over 60 years and 300 films, Dharmendra carved unforgettable memories on the nation’s canvas, with the eternal classics Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar and Chupke Chupke. Beyond the screen, he was a true Punjabi: full of warmth, humility, and deep family values.

His life was large and beautiful, with the love of his two wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and he had a gigantic presence in the lives of his children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Vijeta Deol, Ahana Deol and Ajeita Deol. To his friends and fans, Dharmendra was not just an actor but a steadfast companion, his comforting presence always lighting up parties and rooms, in joy and in sorrow.

Due to his old age, he had been ill for the past month and was also hospitalised recently and ultimately died today peacefully at home.

As a Padma Bhushan awardee, India’s third highest civilian honour, and a former member of the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha), Dharmendra made invaluable contribution to Indian arts, culture, politics and society. His legacy is eternal, and his larger than life presence in cinematic memory will continue to guide Indian films, reminding young actors what true stardom looked like and making billions of people smile in their hearts, as they remember a man who never really left.
