India reaffirmed their cricket dominance by defeating Pakistan convincingly in a much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash. The match, marked by the artistry of Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, saw Pakistan collapse to just 127 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs—a total that never looked sufficient on a favorable pitch for batting.
Opting to field first, India’s bowling unit struck early but it was during the middle overs that the contest decisively tilted. Kuldeep Yadav, with exceptional control, finished with three wickets for just 18 runs. His spell included a brilliant double-strike, sending Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz back on consecutive deliveries, breaking Pakistan’s hopes of a revival. Axar Patel complemented him perfectly, picking up two wickets for 18 runs, including the dangerous Fakhar Zaman and Salman Agha. The duo kept the Pakistani batsmen in check, not allowing any partnerships to flourish.
Despite some resistance from Sahibzada Farhan, who top-scored with 40, and a late flourish by Shaheen Afridi (33*), Pakistan was restricted to a below-par score. India’s chase was steady and assured, with Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 47 anchoring the response. Contributions from openers Abhishek Sharma (31) and Tilak Varma (31) ensured there were no hiccups as India reached the target in just 15.5 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav was deservedly named Player of the Match. The clinical win reaffirmed India’s reputation for spin strength and highlighted how key bowlers can change the course of high-pressure games against arch-rivals.
With this victory, India have sent a strong message to their competitors in the Asia Cup, showcasing both spin bowling brilliance and a confident batting approach.
