Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 11, 2025, reaffirming India’s consistent stand for a peaceful settlement to the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Modi stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only effective ways to end the war.

Zelenskyy updated PM Modi on recent Russian attacks and called for measures to reduce Moscow’s energy exports, saying it would limit its ability to continue military operations. He also thanked India for its ongoing support and urged New Delhi to use its influence to encourage peace talks.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen India-Ukraine bilateral relations and agreed to meet in person at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September.

This conversation comes shortly after PM Modi’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Modi similarly emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict through peaceful means.

India has maintained a neutral but engaged stance in the war, offering humanitarian aid to Ukraine while keeping dialogue open with both Kyiv and Moscow. Modi’s outreach reflects India’s position that direct negotiations involving Ukraine are essential for any lasting resolution.

Both leaders concluded their discussion with a shared hope for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
