Israel Launches Major Airstrikes, Iran Responds with Missile Barrage

In a major escalation of tensions, Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran on June 13, 2025. The airstrike, known as Operation Rising Lion, targeted nearly 100 sites across Iran, including major nuclear facilities at Natanz and Isfahan, as well as key military installations.

According to reports, over 200 Israeli aircraft were involved in the mission. Several high-ranking Iranian officials, including IRGC chief Hossein Salami and Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani, were reportedly killed. At least six nuclear scientists are also believed to be among the casualties.

Iran quickly responded with a barrage of over 200 missiles and drones aimed at Israel. While Israeli air defenses intercepted many of them, some struck sensitive areas including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and military bases like the Kirya.

Initial reports suggest at least 3 to 7 Israeli civilians were killed, with dozens injured. In Iran, casualties are estimated to be over 70, though the official count is still unclear.

The international community, including the UN, EU, UK, and Egypt, has urged both countries to de-escalate. However, both Israel and Iran have signaled a readiness for further military action. Iranian leadership has even threatened to target US, UK, and French military bases in the region if foreign powers interfere.

Global markets have also been affected, with oil and gold prices surging, and commercial flights being diverted from Middle Eastern airspace.

The situation remains highly volatile, with observers warning that the conflict could spiral into a larger regional war if not contained soon.
