The recently established ceasefire between India and Pakistan faced an immediate challenge as reports emerged of violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, shortly after the ceasefire took effect at 5:00 PM IST, explosions were heard in Udhampur, and drone activity was reported in Pathankot. These incidents have raised concerns about the stability of the truce.
Further reports indicate that Pakistani troops engaged in unprovoked firing along the LoC in the Poonch district, prompting a response from the Indian Army. The extent of the damage on the Pakistani side remains unclear, but officials have stated that the enemy forces suffered “heavy casualties.”
The ceasefire, brokered with the assistance of the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, was seen as a significant step towards de-escalation following weeks of heightened tensions. However, these recent developments have cast doubt on the durability of the agreement.
Both nations have yet to issue official statements regarding the violations. The situation remains tense, and further diplomatic efforts may be necessary to restore and maintain peace along the border.
