The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were both adjourned for the day on Day 6 of the Parliament Monsoon Session as Opposition protests disrupted proceedings. No discussion took place on the anti-paper leak Bill in the Lower House, even though the government had planned to take it up.
The Opposition continued its protest inside the Lok Sabha, demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged use of police force on protesters in Delhi last week. Their repeated slogans and demands created a noisy scene, making it impossible for the House to move ahead with business.
The anti-paper leak Bill was expected to be an important item on the day’s agenda. The Bill is meant to address unfair practices in public examinations and strengthen action against paper leaks. However, the session was lost in disruption before any meaningful discussion could begin.
Rajya Sabha also faced the same situation. The Upper House was adjourned for the day without any discussion, as protests continued and the functioning of Parliament came to a halt.
The day once again showed how political confrontation has taken over legislative work during the Monsoon Session. While the government wants to push forward its agenda, the Opposition is focused on demanding accountability over the police action in Delhi. As a result, Parliament could not take up an issue linked to education and exam security, which was one of the key business items for the day.
With both Houses adjourned, the session ended without any progress on the anti-paper leak Bill. The deadlock also raised fresh questions about how soon Parliament will be able to return to normal proceedings if the protest continues.
