Imran Khan Mystery Deepens: Fake News or a Silenced Truth?

Currently, the buzz which we are seeing about Imran Khan’s death is just that: a buzz. On 26 Nov 2025 a handful of outlets, especially some Afghan-based sites, claimed the former Pakistani prime minister had been killed in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, saying his body had been moved out of the prison. Pakistani officials and Khan’s own family quickly called the reports “rumours” and “fake news,” insisting he is still alive and being held in custody.

At the same time, Khan’s three sisters—Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Dr Uzma Khan—were reportedly assaulted by police outside the jail while trying to get information about his health, which added fuel to the speculation.
So, the picture right now is a mix of unverified claims on social media, a government denial, and a very tense situation on the ground. The story is still developing, and no conclusive evidence has emerged to confirm either that he’s alive or that he’s been killed.

Instability in Pakistan for a long time

Pakistan has been witnessing instability for a long time. The most recent incident occurred on 9 May 2023, when former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was arrested in Islamabad High Court by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with Al-Qadir Trust Corruption charges.
However, the Supreme Court called the arrest as “illegal”, and hence ordered his immediate release on 11 May 2023. When Khan was taken into custody while attending a court hearing, the protests spread all across the country. His supporters clashed with police, blocked major roads and stormed military buildings. Even after his release, protests continued. Consequently, the government imposed an emergency order banning gatherings in some provinces and ban of the internet in certain areas.

The SC declared the arrest “illegal” but Why?

The Supreme Court of Pakistan declared his arrest illegal, as the court considered the arrest from the premises of Islamabad High Court a Violation of judicial sanctity. As the Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial highlighted, no one should feel unsafe while visiting a Court.
Additionally, it came that the NAB and Paramilitary Rangers did not obtain permission from court’s Registrar before arrest in court premises, which was essential. The court also states that NAB committed it as “Contempt of Court”.
At the end, Imran Khan faced multiple charges including corruption and violating the Official Secrets Act.
He was sentenced to 10 years in Jail in January 2024 for a leaking state’s secret and 14 years of imprisonment in the Toshakhana Case.

Toshakhana Case

Khan’s arrest is also associated with the Toshakhana case.
During his tenure between 2018 to 2022, Khan received expensive gifts from foreign dignitaries, including luxury watches and jewelry. He sold them in the open market for profit.
Actually, Khan was charged with misdeclarating assets related to the gifts, hidden details about the gifts and used his office to tailor procedures to acquire the gifts at low-market prices. As a result, the Election Commission of Pakistan filed a complaint against Khan, alleging “false statement and incorrect declaration”.
Khan was convicted to two Toshakhana Cases. First in August 2023, where he was sentenced to a 3 years Imprisonment with 100000 PKR ($315.071-) as fine. Second, in January 2024, where he and his wife, Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment with corruption charges.

Controversy between Khan and Asim Munir

The sparking controversy between Imran Khan and Asim Munir is not hidden at all. The Army Chief of Pakistan, Asim Munir, was witnessed in headlines in the year 2025, when American President Donald John Trump invited him for dinner at the White House.
Anyways, the controversy between both stems from Khan’s allegations that Munir has a personal vendetta against him and his wife.
In fact, he claims that he and his wife are mistreated in the jail and Asim Munir is behind this mistreatment. Khan claims that he is releasing his personal grudge from him and his wife.
Back in the past, when Imran Khan was holding the position as Prime Minister, he removed Asim Munir from his position as Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (I.S.I.) chief. And when he sought to discuss the matter with Bushra Bibi, she refused.
