Home India Indian Air Force Tejas Fighter Jet Crashes at Dubai Airshow, Pilot Dies;...
An Indian Air Force (IAF) Tejas fighter jet crashed at the Dubai Airshow on November 21, 2025, killing the pilot, Wing Commander Namansh Syal. The crash occurred during a flying display at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, drawing shock and grief from India and aviation enthusiasts worldwide.
The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. local time as the Tejas aircraft was performing an aerobatic manoeuvre at low altitude when it suddenly nosedived and exploded in flames. Witnesses reported plumes of thick black smoke rising from the crash site, with emergency teams responding quickly to contain the fire. Despite efforts, the pilot sustained fatal injuries.
This tragic incident marks the second major crash of the indigenous HAL-produced Tejas fighter jet. The cramped single-engine aircraft represents India’s commitment to modernizing its air force, reducing reliance on older foreign models. The first notable crash occurred in March 2024 during a military exercise, but fortunately, the pilot ejected safely.
In response to the crash, the Indian Air Force confirmed the pilot’s death and expressed deep condolences to the family. A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the root cause, focusing on flight data, engine performance, manoeuvre parameters, and human factors. The inquiry aims to improve safety protocols for future airshow demonstrations and operational use of the Tejas fleet.
Dubai authorities also praised the rapid response from firefighting crews and emergency teams working at the crash site. The Dubai Airshow, the largest aviation event in the Middle East, was temporarily paused following the accident but resumed later after ensuring safety measures.
This incident is a significant loss for the Indian defense community, as the Tejas is a key symbol of India’s indigenous aerospace capabilities and defense modernization efforts. Further updates are awaited as investigations progress.
