Home India Politics Nitish Kumar Sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister for Historic 10th Time...
On November 20, 2025, Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar Chief Minister for a historic 10th time, strengthening his position as one of India’s longest-serving leaders. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, other senior NDA leaders, and Chief Ministers from several states.
This event followed the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) spectacular victory in the Bihar Assembly elections held days earlier. The NDA coalition, led by BJP and JD(U), secured 202 out of the 243 seats, a clear mandate from the people of Bihar. BJP won 89 seats while Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) secured 85 seats, establishing a strong partnership for the upcoming government term.
Nitish Kumar was unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA legislature party. His tenure as Chief Minister, starting from 2005 with a brief interruption, now extends to nearly two decades, making him the eighth longest-serving Chief Minister in independent India. Nitish Kumar’s political resilience is reflected in his ability to adapt and lead through complex alliance dynamics.
Alongside Nitish Kumar, 26 ministers were sworn in, representing the NDA coalition parties. Key JD(U) leaders such as Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Madan Sahni took oath, alongside BJP leaders including Samrat Choudhary and Dilip Jaiswal. The cabinet also includes representatives from smaller NDA allies like the Lok Janshakti Party and Hindustan Awam Morcha.
The swearing-in symbolizes a renewed commitment by the NDA government to Bihar’s development and governance, with Nitish Kumar at the helm for another term. The massive electoral mandate and strong cabinet lineup are seen as a foundation for political stability and progress in Bihar over the next five years.
