At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Russia, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a powerful message on terrorism, urging all member countries to adopt a “zero tolerance” stance. He emphasized that terrorism must never be justified or ignored and called for “no whitewashing” of terror acts.
Jaishankar highlighted that terrorism, separatism, and extremism—the “three evils” the SCO was created to fight—have only grown more dangerous. He insisted the SCO must stand united and act decisively against these threats to safeguard regional and global security.
In addition to the tough stance on terrorism, Jaishankar urged the SCO to reform and expand its working methods and agenda. He called for adapting the organization to the changing global landscape, addressing new challenges such as cyber threats, drug trafficking, and organized crime effectively.
His remarks come amid ongoing global security concerns and underline India’s commitment to defending its people while fostering cooperation among SCO members. Jaishankar’s speech reflects India’s clear position: terrorism cannot be tolerated or excused under any circumstances, and multilateral institutions like the SCO must strengthen their efforts accordingly.
This message underscores India’s intent to have the SCO play a more relevant and impactful role in ensuring peace and security in the region, while also modernizing its approach to meet contemporary challenges.
