The Diamond League Final 2025 in Zurich delivered a thrilling javelin showdown as Germany’s Julian Weber claimed his maiden title with a pair of spectacular 90m-plus throws. Weber kicked off the competition with a season-best 91.37 meters and quickly topped it with a personal best of 91.57 meters in the next round. His consistency was unmatched, with all five legal throws landing beyond the 83-meter mark, making him the undisputed leader on the day.
India’s Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, fought hard to secure the runner-up position. Starting with a solid 84.35 meters, Chopra’s subsequent attempts included 82 meters, several fouls, and a final round effort of 85.01 meters that nudged him past Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago by a mere six centimeters. Anderson Peters of Grenada finished in fourth position with 82.06 meters.
Despite a self-described “off-day,” Chopra remained positive, focusing on his upcoming world championship title defense. “At major championships, the gold is more important than far throws. I will try my best to win the medal,” he stated after the event. With this result, Weber holds a 3-1 season lead over Chopra, though Chopra boasts an overall 15-5 head-to-head advantage since 2021.
The Zurich final highlighted Weber’s breakthrough year and re-affirmed Chopra’s status as a consistent top performer. Both athletes now look ahead to the world championships, where competition will be fierce.
