Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for a significant diplomatic tour of the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to July 26, 2025. This two-nation visit is aimed at signing a landmark trade deal with the UK and reinforcing strategic partnerships with the key Indian Ocean nation of the Maldives.
At the invitation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, PM Modi will travel to London for a visit expected to mark a new chapter in India-UK relations.
The centerpiece of the visit will be the official signing of the highly anticipated India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Finalized in May, this comprehensive agreement is projected to double the bilateral trade volume to over $60 billion by 2030. The FTA is set to open new opportunities for Indian exporters in sectors like textiles and leather goods, while also facilitating access for British products in the Indian market.
During their talks, PM Modi and PM Starmer will review the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with discussions covering trade, technology, defense, and climate change. A meeting with King Charles III is also on the agenda.
Following his UK engagement, Prime Minister Modi will make a state visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu. The visit is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
A major highlight of the trip will be PM Modi’s attendance as the Guest of Honour at the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives on July 26.
This visit signals a positive turn in bilateral relations and reaffirms India’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The leaders will discuss mutual interests and review their joint vision for economic and maritime security in the Indian Ocean. The trip underscores the strategic importance of the Maldives as a maritime partner for India.
