‘Make the Middle East Great Again’: Trump Pushes Peace Amid War

As the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies, US President Donald Trump has made a surprising claim—saying peace between the two rival nations will happen “soon.” His comments follow Iran’s massive ballistic missile retaliation against Israel, launched in response to Israel’s latest military campaign, Operation Rising Lion.

Operation Rising Lion, which began early Friday, targeted Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli cities, some of which struck buildings in Tel Aviv and other central regions.

Despite the escalating violence, Trump took to his platform Truth Social on Sunday to insist that peace talks are already underway.

“Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal,” Trump wrote. “Just like I got India and Pakistan to make, by using trade with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders.”

Trump compared the ongoing Israel-Iran crisis with past global conflicts he claims to have defused during his presidency—including tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, and the dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Nile River dam.

He also blamed President Joe Biden’s foreign policies for the current state of affairs, saying:

“Many calls and meetings are now taking place. I do a lot and never get credit, but that’s okay—the people understand. Make the Middle East Great Again.”

Just hours before his post, Trump had issued a warning to Iran that any attack on American assets would lead to severe consequences from the US military.

Whether Trump’s optimism has any diplomatic foundation remains uncertain. But as missiles continue to fly across borders, his comments have added a new twist to an already volatile situation.
