The Centre has announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will take place from July 21 to August 12. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated the government is prepared to discuss all pressing national matters during the 23-day session. A major highlight is the planned impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma, who has been indicted by a Supreme Court-appointed inquiry panel in a corruption-related case.
Rijiju emphasized that such a serious issue must be handled with political unity and has begun consulting leaders of major and smaller parties to reach a consensus. Meanwhile, the Opposition, particularly the Congress, has raised concerns about the unusually early announcement of the session—47 days in advance. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the government of avoiding a special session requested to discuss the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and foreign policy missteps.
Despite government efforts to focus on judicial accountability, the session is expected to see heated debates on national security and diplomatic strategy. Opposition leaders have asserted that these issues will dominate the agenda, regardless of the government’s attempt to steer discussions elsewhere.
