Germany Backs India’s Right to Defend Itself from Terrorism: Jaishankar Welcomes Support

In a strong show of support, Germany has stated that India has every right to defend itself against terrorism. The statement was made during a joint press conference in Berlin on May 23, 2025, where German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Germany’s remarks, reaffirming India’s firm stance against terrorism. He stated that India follows a zero-tolerance policy and will continue to take necessary steps to ensure national security.

Background: The Pahalgam Attack and India’s Response

The terror attack in Pahalgam was carried out by The Resistance Front, a group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting alleged terror camps across the border in Pakistan.

India Rules Out Third-Party Mediation

Minister Jaishankar made it clear that India will deal with Pakistan strictly through bilateral talks and ruled out any possibility of international mediation. “There should be no confusion on this,” he emphasized, adding that India won’t succumb to nuclear threats or diplomatic pressure.

Global Support and Diplomacy

Germany’s support aligns with its broader policy against global terrorism. The international community continues to call for calm while encouraging diplomatic efforts to avoid further escalation between India and Pakistan.
