Air India has temporarily suspended its flights to and from Tel Aviv following a missile attack near Ben Gurion International Airport on May 4, 2025. The missile, launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, landed close to Israel’s busiest airport, injuring several people and causing disruptions to flight operations. In response, Air India diverted its flight AI139 from Delhi to Abu Dhabi, where it landed safely. The airline has announced that operations to Tel Aviv will remain suspended until May 6.
As a relief measure, Air India is offering a one-time waiver for all passengers holding valid tickets for travel between May 4 and May 6. Affected travelers can either reschedule their journeys without any additional charges or cancel their bookings for a full refund. This move aims to provide flexibility and support to passengers during this period of uncertainty.
This missile strike is part of a growing escalation in the region and marks the first direct impact near Ben Gurion Airport since the beginning of the Israel-Gaza conflict in October 2023. The Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
Following Air India’s announcement, other major international carriers such as Lufthansa, Air France, and United Airlines have also suspended flights to Tel Aviv, citing security concerns. With tensions rising, airlines around the world are closely monitoring the situation and adjusting their schedules accordingly.
Passengers planning to travel to Israel are strongly advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and adhere to all travel advisories issued by official authorities.
